What type of glasses will be Apple VR glasses?
If you haven’t heard yet, Apple is currently developing MIXED REALITY (MRI) VR glasses that should be ready in less than a year, if rumors are to be believed.
The VR glasses Apple is working on will be a standalone device with powerful A-series processors that will equalize the performance of these VR glasses with Apple’s Mac computers. They will be equipped with two chips that will allow them to perform the complex tasks that running virtual reality requires.
In terms of design, Apple VR glasses will look similar to other VR glasses on the market such as Meta Quest, but will have a more elegant look and lightweight construction to make them as comfortable as possible. Two high-resolution micro OLED displays (up to 3000 pixels per inch) will provide an impressive experience, and there are rumors of additional side screens that will ensure higher quality peripheral vision.
Apple will also incorporate more than a dozen cameras into its VR glasses that will serve to track hand movements and gestures, which will be one of the methods of motion control along with eye tracking and devices that will be able to be tapped on toes.
Operating System for Apple VR Glasses
Apple has been working on software that will power their VR glasses since 2017, and according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple will call it realityOS or rOS. The name will go hand in hand with the name VR glasses, which are expected to be Reality One or Reality Pro. RealityOS currently has an internal code name “Oak”, and references to it have been discovered in the App Store and apple’s source code, confirming the name.
With Apple VR glasses, which are likely to debut sometime in 2023, possibly in the first half of the year, we can also expect the first version of realityOS. There’s a possibility that Apple will unveil its new VR glasses and realityOS at the World Developer Conference in June, but there’s also a chance it’ll happen sooner.
What content will be available on Apple VR glasses?
As it seems for now, Apple is looking at its new VR glasses as a device for gaming, watching videos, videoconferencing and general communication with other people, and that will be what Apple will focus on in terms of software.
Games are one of the key features on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, so the new Apple VR glasses are expected to support a large number of games. Apple Arcade, for example, could further expand the range of VR games available on Apple’s VR glasses.
Since Mac, iPhone, Apple TV and Apple Watch all have their own app stores (App Store), so, accordingly, it is expected that the new Apple VR glasses will also get their own App Store .
There are certain indicators that suggest that Apple is developing a video service for VR glasses that will include the ability to play 3D content in virtual reality, which is a rather interesting and relatively unexplored idea.
