ByteDance and Pico have officially announced the launch date for their latest VR headset, the “Pico 4 Ultra,” which is set to debut in China on August 20. This announcement was made on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). However, details on when the Pico 4 Ultra will be available in markets outside of China have not yet been disclosed.

No More Pico 4S

The anticipation surrounding Pico’s new VR headset has been building for months, with several leaks hinting at potential specifications and design features. Originally, it was widely believed that the headset would be named the “Pico 4S,” following ByteDance’s registration of the trademark earlier this year.

Recent developments, however, have taken a surprising turn with the official naming of the device as the Pico 4 Ultra. Information from a South Korean certification authority has already confirmed that the headset will support 6 GHz Wi-Fi, indicating compatibility with Wi-Fi 6E or possibly even Wi-Fi 7. Additionally, leaked official renders have shown the VR headset alongside its carrying case and accessories.

As for pricing, the Pico 4 Ultra is expected to sit between the yet-to-be-announced Meta Quest 3S and the Meta Quest 3, offering similar technical capabilities to the Quest 3.
