Meta’s upcoming “high end” hedset will be named Quest Pro
Project Cambria is the public code name of Meta’s next hedset, announced at Connect 2021. Hedset will be sold side by side with the Quest 2 hedset, but at a significantly higher price of $800 ($5,900). Quest Pro targets people who work remotely and people and businesses that are among the first to start using augmented reality (XR). Meta confirmed in October last year that it had already started issuing development kits.
The Cambria project has no official name for now, but dataminer Steve Moser recently revealed the “ Pair Meta Quest Pro right controller” line of code in a new oculus app upgrade for iPhone and shared his discovery with Bloomberg.
Bloomberg claims in his article that quest pro will have “much better graphics processing and power” than the Quest 2 hedset.
Significant improvements
It looks like the Quest Pro will have a more balanced design than the Quest 2 with a thinner visor, which was achieved by using thin lenses instead of fresnel lenses. Hedset is equipped with higher resolution cameras and color and depth sensors to provide the best possible mixed reality experience. It will also have built-in sensors for monitoring the face and eyes for the best possible control of avatars in the virtual world.
The Quest Pro will also feature a double 2160×2160 Mili-LED LCD display, an improvement over the Quest 2, which has less than 1832×1920 pixels per eye. The Quest Pro should also have 12GB of RAM, a significant shift, over the Quest 2, which has 6gb of RAM.
