Since its opening in 2015, the Vučedol Culture Museum has captivated with its content and the story of the ancient culture that resided in the area of today’s Vukovar. In addition to numerous original exhibits, architectural solutions that have earned numerous awards from the profession, the people of Vukovar have become leaders in modern technologies, which they have incorporated into the exhibition itself in an interesting way.
The greatest credit for this goes to marketing manager Darko Bilandžić, author of the latest digital exhibition – “Vučedolac outside the box”. You can read the interview with Darko here
“Vučedol people as a culture were advanced, we can say that they thought “outside the box”, so my intention was that the museum dedicated to them be equally innovative. I think we have passed the time of static museums, which require visitors to walk through them and read materials next to exhibits. Therefore, in addition to improving our website, we decided to go a step further and create an interactive exhibition with augmented reality (AR) technology. Users will scan the photo with tablets and will be shown the appropriate 3D, audio, text or video content. With this kind of presentation, we want to get closer to the younger generation of users and stay up to date with the modern way of presenting museum material, and thus additionally building our digital archive. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the comments at the presentation of the exhibition, and this clearly shows how important it is to continue working in the direction of new technologies. I am glad that colleagues from other museums have recognized our efforts and are inquiring about the possibilities of implementing similar technologies in their display. We are aware that we have become leaders in this field, but we will not sleep on our laurels, but are preparing new projects that have as their ultimate goal to give satisfaction to our visitors and bring the world of museums closer to young people and to all those who are open to new technologies.” – said Bilandžić at the opening of the exhibition.
